Not Just Food...Memories

Cooking and baking with children is more than just cooking. It is showing kids the magic of being in the kitchen. I have always loved being in the kitchen with my mom and grandma, learning and experimenting alongside them. When I was young, I was the designated mixer, and sometimes I was even allowed to pour the ingredients into the bowl. The kitchen has always been a place where I could escape the busyness of life, calm my mind, and find quiet. I want to show other kids how many memories you can make in the kitchen, from chaos and laughter to measuring gone wrong and sticky fingers. Kids love baking with you.

This recipe is perfect for kids of all ages to make together. It's easy, fun, and delicious! It's a one-bowl granola bar that does not require baking, so it is ready to eat in minutes!

Ingredients:

3 cups oats

1 1/2 cup peanut butter

3/4 cup honey

1/4 cup coconut (optional)

1/3 cup flax meal

1/2 cup maple syrup

1 cup freeze-dried strawberries or raspberries

1/2 cup chocolate chips or melting chocolate

Directions:

1. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and mix until well combined

2. Transfer the mixture into a 9” x 13” pan lined with parchment paper

3. Press the bars down until flat and even

4. Melt the chocolate and spread it over the top of the bars

5. Garnish with more dried fruit

6. Store in the fridge for the best results

7. Enjoy!

Notes:

1. You can either put chocolate chips in the bars or melt them and put them on top

2. If you’re baking with a little chef, let them make a mess and taste test along the way. Let them use their hand to mix (after washing their hands, of course); it makes it more fun for them.

This recipe is one of my favorites because, although it's simple, it holds a lot of meaning for me. I love making these with my cousins, and the best part? They are healthy! No more store-bought, sugar-packed granola bars. Kids and adults love these, and they can be made within 20 minutes. It is the perfect snack for busy moms and anyone on the go, or for those people looking to eliminate extra unwanted sugar. These bars are fun and easy to make, and a good way to start or end your day.
